Le Tour de l’Île

‘Culture is the sum of all the forms of art, of love, and of thought, which, over centuries have enabled man to be less enslaved‘. – Andre Mairaux

Montreal is our vibrant home, with its sidewalk cafes, multicultural and multilingual flair. There are festivals, street fairs, jazz and parades, many types of art, fireworks and tam-tams on the mountain as well as fantastic restaurants and clothing boutiques to experience with an emphasis on enjoying life.

This painting depicts a small window of Montreal’s cultural diversity. The statue of David was used to symbolize that art and culture are the backbone of a city. Art is who we are and thus it is our most vital tool for seeing ourselves, understanding our pasts, manifesting our futures. A culture that celebrates collective creativity and openness is one that will support the most inspirational work.

The masterpiece sculpture of David was created between 1501 and 1504 by the Italian artist Michelangelo. It is a 5.17 metre (17 ft.) marble statue of a standing nude male. Michelangelo’s ‘David‘ has become one of the most recognized works of Renaissance sculpture. It is a symbol of both strength and youthful human beauty. The original is exhibited, since 1873, in the Accademia Gallery in Florence.
