Artist’s Statement

I am an oil painter artist. My medium of choice is oil on canvas. I love the richness, the feeling, even the smell of oil. I challenge myself with the old-master’s technique with a personal and contemporary touch.

My favorite subjects to paint are the human body, life scenes and nature. I have been painting the beauties of Africa through its people hoping to change the generalized perception and transmit a lasting emotion to the viewer by showing a different aspect of this amazing continent.

Our environment, our planet and our small portion of the Universe are also current subjects of interests. I believe that art has the power to heal and create positive changes. I believe in humanity and will continue to paint with a positive vision of our future.

My artwork has been seen and sold in public and private exhibits, galleries, books and Museum. It is also part of public and private collections throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.

Andre Chatelain creates paintings that take viewers on inspirational journeys.
Masterfully painted, they stir an immediate visceral response about humanity, history and different cultures

Artists Helping Artists

Together with my spouse, we have founded an organization named Painting a New World in 2008. Through the sale of our artwork, we support artists in Africa and Haiti, helping to create positive changes in their communities. In 2009, we were honoured to receive the Humanity Art Award from the Académie Internationale des Beaux-Arts du Québec.

In July 2020, The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS, founded by Renee Phillips in New York, produced an interview with Agnes Jorgensen and Andre about Painting a New World.  You will find the complete interview on PNMW website.

Biography

Andre Chatelain is an award-winning artist living in Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, Quebec, Canada. Training from The Academy of Realist Art has directed the artist to dedicate himself to oil technique on canvas applied in the old-master method of realist art.

The artist recalls ‘I fell in love with Africa during my first trip in Kenya.  It was a revelation. I felt at Home, close to the people and their way of living in happiness, love and dignity. This feeling stayed with me for a long time’.

Andre Chatelain has received national and international awards and has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, in galleries and Museum, including the Regional Museum of Vaudreuil-Soulanges (Quebec), the Leonardo da Vinci Centre in Montreal (Quebec), the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel (New York), the Rockefeller Center (New York) and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (Manitoba).
