We are all born with an innate sense of wonder that propels us to explore. As children we are naturally curious and experimental, not held back by fears of social disapproval or failure. However the spark of adventure gets dimmed as we learn to become responsible mature adults. By reconnecting to this spark and honoring it, we begin to open the door to wonderful experiences and discover an intimate connection that resides within.
While man has been exploring the earth for centuries, we are still discovering amazing places and hidden secrets. The seas and oceans still hold many mysteries. Our need to cherish and protect our planet must be our priority.
Sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor spent much of his early childhood exploring the coral reefs of Malaysia. In 2006 he founded and created the world’s first underwater sculpture park situated off the coast of Grenada in the West Indies and is now listed of the top 25 Wonders of the World by National Geographic. His latest creation is MUSA (Museo Subaquatico de Arte), a monumental museum with a collection of over 450 public sculptural works, submerged off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. Taylor is currently based in Cancun where he is the founder and Artistic Director of the MUSA.
The Neptune figure is part of the monumental Fountain of Neptune in Florence, Italy, situated on the Piazza della Signoria, in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. The fountain was completed between 1563 and 1565 and is the work of the sculptor Bartolomeo Ammannati.
